Where do you work?
I am working in the Creative Services Department in the Ministry of Communications for the Bermuda Government.
Did you feel confident about entering the world of work after you graduated?
I was a bit nervous about what the actual work force was going to be like. I wasn't used to not having my lecturers to ask if my work was heading in the right direction. But I knew I had the skills to make it.
What were you doing before the course?
I was an Administrative Assistant.
Why did you decide to do the course?
I wanted to get into graphic design as a profession and start a career I would love longterm. The problem was that I worked full-time and I couldn't just stop working and go off to a four-year college. So when I came across Shillington I was determined to go.
What was the most valuable thing you took away from the course?
Balance - Hierarchy - Alignment - Repetition - Contrast! They are the rules that I live by. I even have them posted around my computer to keep me in check!
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
I was put as Lead Designer on a marketing revamp for the Department of Energy.
Where do you see yourself 12 months from now?
12 months from now I hope to be sitting on the beach, sipping on a cocktail and flying a kite. But seriously, I hope to be doing a lot more freelance work and making a strong presence in the design community here in Bermuda.
2 years from now hope to be working in the UK with the Bermuda Tourism Marketing Department as their Lead Designer. Yes, big goals ahead of me!
