Where do you work?
I work at SNASK in Stockholm. It is a design agency specializing in branding and film.
What is your role?
I am currently on a 6 month internship working as a graphic designer.
Describe your typical day as a designer.
I get in at around 9am and the Art Director will either brief me on a new project or I continue on with what I was working on the previous day. It could be anything from book design, brochures or magazine layout. The projects are very varied which I like.
What do you love about being a designer?
The fact that you actually get to see your own work getting printed or published is highly satisfying. And like most designers say, no two projects are ever the same!
When did you graduate from Shillington?
July 2011.
Where were you working before the course?
I was working in a storage house dealing with frozen food (it was -18° all the time) and I was literally doing the same thing for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.
Did you have any graphic design experience before studying at Shillington?
I actually completed a diploma course in graphic design a few years prior to Shillington but I felt that my skills were not adequate to get a job after I graduated.
Why did you decide to do the course?
It was time for me to part ways with my old job since it was a lot of hard work and very little chance of getting anywhere so I decided to delve into graphic design again. I had done a lot of research about Shillington but I was still sceptical about the course because of its length. I'm pleased to say that my scepticism flew out the door pretty quickly after starting.
What was the most valuable thing you took away from the course?
There are a lot of things that I could choose but I guess it would the skills to be able to produce eye-catching work within a short time-span.
How did you find the college environment, facilities and teaching?
Even though we had tight deadlines for each project, it was a very inspiring environment seeing each others work. It made you try even harder for each brief. The teaching was second-to-none! The teachers had a lot of experience and the way the course was set out was great for getting the most out of you. No complaints whatsoever!
How confident did you feel about entering the design industry once you'd completed the course?
I felt pretty confident that I had the skills that were needed to get in to the industry. I knew it would take a while but it felt like something was going to come along eventually.
