Where do you work?
Baseline Creative, Derby.
What is your role?
I am a Graphic Designer. I work on a wide range of briefs and have a lot of involvement in the design process from start to finish.
Did you feel confident about entering the design industry after you graduated?
Yes, I felt completely prepared and I was really excited to get stuck in.
What were you doing before the course?
My previous jobs were all IT related. My last role, as a data analyst, was quite repetitive and not stimulating in the slightest! I was constantly watching the clock, waiting for 5pm to strike so that I could leave!
Why did you decide to do the course?
I simply wasn't happy in the career path I had ended up on. I wanted to be able enjoy my job and have the ability to be creative so a career change into graphic design seemed incredibly appealing! My friend told me about Shillington School and, after doing some research, I realised that it was perfect for my situation.
What was the most valuable thing you took away from the course?
I think learning and understanding about the design principles was very valuable. It has taught me how to appreciate design on another level. Also the intensive training on how to use the software has proved to be extremely useful – the keyboard shortcuts have been drilled into my long-term memory!
Where do you see yourself in 12 months?
I want to be producing highly creative designs for well-established organisations and, of course, still be part of the Baseline team!
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
It is always exciting to see my work published but I think that my highlight has been having heavy involvement and input into the rebrand of Baseline Creative. I am very proud to see the brand of the company I work for getting high recognition and praise from all we speak to.
